All that is truly GOOD

IMG-20140222-00504

Apparently, people enjoy reading my blogs and email updates because I share my struggles and try to be vulnerable.
If you would have told me 2 years ago that that’s the kind of material I’d be writing, I would have laughed in your face.
I don’t know when in my life I decided to get comfortable with baring my soul to the world, but I guess it happened, and as a result I am seriously filled with freedom.

So without further ado, please let me impart my latest learning experience and where my heart’s at.

If you’ve been following me on Twitter or Facebook, you know that I am in the States now, and this transition has been ROUGH.
I went back to Nicaragua (through the help of your donations and encouragement) for about a month to say my goodbyes and tie up the loose ends I had left behind. Deciding to go back to the States was all so sudden and unexpected, I was kind of caught off guard and I left without really feeling settled in my spirit. So the trip back was really needed.
Going back, I experienced a range of emotions and felt things that I can’t even begin to describe. My heart broke more and more every day that I spent sitting at peoples’ houses, helping with homework, cooking food, playing with children, having deep conversations, loving on my families…
I was falling apart and had absolutely no idea how to control it or keep it together.

I went into this trip with a firm resolve not to count down the days or think about leaving. I was going to live in the moment, concentrate on the here and now, and not worry about how I was going to say goodbye. It worked, almost too well.
When I got to the last couple days, I started panicking. See, I fit in so well in Nicaragua. I honestly could see myself just living there, and having a completely happy life. I was on a bus headed to Managua to get to the airport and I was having serious thoughts about not getting on my plane.
The only thing that kept me going was that I KNOW without a shadow of a doubt that the Lord has called me to go to Honduras. Growing up and being an adult means that I can’t just do whatever FEELS good. It might feel good to stay in Nicaragua, but what are the long-term consequences of that? I have already spoken about moving to Honduras, about feeling God’s calling there…so if I had decided to stay, what kind of example is that for my friends in Nicaragua?
It’s a bad one. It’s an example of someone choosing to ignore God and be selfish. That’s what.
I am confident enough in my vulnerability to admit that to you all.

See, I think my main wound of leaving is that in Nicaragua I experienced a kind of love and acceptance I had never felt before, EVER in my life.
Not in the States, not anywhere else.
I built relationships with people who really really cared about me and kept up with my life, wanting to know how I was. And more than that, people wanted to tell me about THEIR lives and wanted to be encouraged and loved on.

So I guess I was angry that God was taking me out of the one place I’ve felt truly accepted and loved and just a good fit. I don’t know if I believe I can find those relationships again and that kind of fulfillment.
But I’m realizing that that’s the problem.
I’m finding my fulfillment in how I FEEL. And how I feel is perhaps different from the truth.
If I truly believe that God is sending me to Honduras (which I do), I know He will provide, and I know things will work out.

Psalm 16, verse 2 says in The Voice version,
“I told You, Eternal One, ‘You are my Lord, for the only good I know in this world is found in You alone.'”

All those truly beautiful, purely good moments and experiences I felt in Nicaragua were from Christ alone. The moments I felt so incredibly blessed and loved and in the Spirit, those were from Jesus.
Since He is calling me to Honduras, there will be more of that good. The only difference is that it will be in a different location.
That good wasn’t happening only because it was in Nicaragua.
God doesn’t change. Locations will, people will, relationships will, but God doesn’t.
I just need to work on trusting Him that He will do all He has promised.

I’m excited to take you all on this journey with me…and I really need the encouragement and support!
I am in the States now, so please let me know if you would like to get together and talk about my past, current, and future missions!
I would love to come share with your church/youth group/bible study/club/school/group/event/etc!

Finding Hope Honduras!!

DSCN1226

If you haven’t been noticing my little hints lately, I’m so excited to announce that…

I’m moving to Honduras!!

As most of you know, I have been looking to move from Nicaragua to a new mission/organization to follow the dreams the Lord has put on my heart about caring for His little babes.

I appreciate the great information and contacts I’ve received from all of you, helping me along and telling me about different places you know about.

While I was praying about and checking into every one of these resources, a really fantastic girl named Katlyn contacted me after reading my blog with some really exciting information about her organization she started in the town of El Porvenir, La Ceiba, Honduras! I met Katlyn when she was traveling around Nicaragua and came to New Song to check out places where she wanted to be long-term.

She sent me a message talking about the things she’s doing in the community and about the Women and Children Center she’s working on starting…and it was so clear that this is where I was supposed to be.
We have really similar passions and hearts for Women, Children, and Community. I love that I’ve found someone who really shares my love for being part of the community wherever you live – taking on their triumphs, struggles, victories, and heartache as your own.

Here’s some info from her website, Finding Hope, which I would really encourage you to check out!

“Finding hope is about giving a deserving community a chance to thrive, connecting with local families and loving children. It is about a passion to serve and give back.”

Katlyn started a Womens Beading program to help some of the local women earn some income for their families:

“Unemployment, unfortunately, affects many families in El Porvenir. Finding Hope is working to address this issue. Currently located in two neighborhoods, we run a beading program aimed at empowering and encouraging women to provide incomes for their families.

Most of the women in this program are unemployed, many raising several kids on their own. Through our bead work program, these women are able to use resources readily available and turn them into beautiful pieces of work. By using recycled old magazines, they are able to make beautiful beads and bracelets. This becomes much more than a simple piece of paper. They are now able to buy food, medicine, school supplies and more necessities for their family.

One hundred percent of the profits of each product sold goes directly to the woman who made the bracelet. We invite you to please join us in our mission by purchasing a bracelet and help us in eradicating poverty.”

The city has donated land to Katlyn and she has been able to build the foundation of the Center so far from donations that have been generously given to her organization.
I’m excited to be a part of helping build this place from (literally) the ground up!

Currently, my plans are:

  • Make a month-long trip to Nicaragua to say my goodbyes and tie up loose ends from the middle of February to the middle of March.
  • Come back to the States and fund-raise the monthly support to live and work in Honduras.
  • Hopefully move down there before the summer starts (May/June-ish).

What YOU can do to help!

  • Money’s going to be really tight to make the trip to Nicaragua, but it really needs to be made, especially because I left most of my belongings there and I need to transport them back.
If you would be able to financially contribute to this trip, I would really appreciate it!
(Donation information is always at the bottom of my blogs or on the side of my blog as well)
  • Pray for this transition and all the changes that I will be making!
  • Have me come speak (or sing!) at your event, small group, church, youth group, club, etc. about my mission and where I’m going next. Consider sponsoring me as a group and getting signed up for my blog/e-mail updates!
  • Prayerfully consider becoming a monthly supporter of my work down in Honduras.
I am planning on being there indefinitely, until the Lord has me leave.
Your financial support is crucial to me being able to afford the (LOW) cost of living in Honduras to be able to work on ministry with these beautiful women and children.

Thank you forever and always for your super encouraging emotional/spiritual/financial support!
I am indebted to each and every one of you who has sent me an e-mail of sweet words, come out to any of my events, read and shared this blog, donated whatever you could…
You all are seriously fantastic.

PLEASE do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you might have about absolutely anything! I will do my best to answer!

“Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”

Santa Matilde…the village of HOPE

IMG_2173

I never get over how adorable this picture is. I mean, COME ON.

This is my girl Gleysi. She lives in a little village called Santa Matilde.

I love her with all my heart. I wonder a lot of time how she’s going to grow up – what that experience is going to be like for her.

She has two parents…at the moment. She’s surrounded by a loving family…for the time being. She is healthy and growing…this week.

Santa Matilde is a pretty unstable community…the constant issues of alcoholism, drug use, domestic violence, hunger, infections, illness are all factors that can be and currently are bringing its people down, keeping them from joyful freedom by poisoning the atmosphere with discouragement, depression, and the deeply rooted belief that there is nothing else. This is your life, you’ve made it this way, there are no second chances.

But it is beautiful. You walk in and see the sun shining through the mango trees, beautiful views of fields and fields of new life, growing and soaking up the sky. Then you meet the people and you can see the many similarities between the nature and the people…every part of Santa Matilde is crying out to be lifted up, always higher!

Jesus has been speaking to me a lot about Santa Matilde. He tells me they are reaching for something more, they are open to hear His truth, they are desperate for another chance at life. Let me tell you about a woman I met there, we’ll call her Maria:

Maria was a typical Nicaraguan woman who has a couple kids, a husband who works long hours, and she takes care of the house, cooks, and cleans all day. She was also a very typical Nicaraguan woman in that her husband physically and mentally abused her. I won’t go into details because that is her past – it’s her story but it’s not her life now. And I want you to remember the person she has become, not be affected by who she was. Maria told me that her house was full of fear and anger, it was not a happy place to be. She started going to Bible studies led by some American women (Whitney and Maritza from New Song) and learned about a Savior that loved her and wanted the best for her life. He was a place of peace and comfort for her troubled soul, a place to rest her weary head and heart. Maria knew that God would take care of her if she chose to trust him. So one night after her husband brutally beat her, she ran away with her children across the country to San Juan del Sur where her mother lived. I can’t even tell you how huge that is in this culture. She took a stand for herself and acted in confidence and FAITH. God was faithful right back to her. After a few weeks, maybe more like a couple months, Maria decided to return home after her husband refused to stop begging for her to come back. Can you even imagine how frightening that would be? Not to mention she had her children to take protect. But she felt it was the right time. After much prayer and thinking, they made the day-long journey home to be reunited. Maria’s husband found her changed. She had a strength and beauty he had never seen before, or maybe just hadn’t take the time to notice. She was a woman of the Lord, and found her dignity and loveliness in his truth and protection.
This story has a happy ending. Maria started bringing her entire family (husband included) to church and he has accepted Christ into his life. They are involved with church and are striving to be a joyful, Christ-centered family.

But not all these stories have happy endings. Most of them are in the beginning stages, not even sure where to go next. I don’t see myself as a leader in their community but I see us growing together – helping each other and building each other up in love and encouragement.
I am excited by the hope I feel there. It’s the same feeling I had when I first came to New Song and saw the work they were doing – the feeling that “Big things are going to happen here…I have to be a part of this!”.

I am WAY excited to be going once a week to start visiting more families and building relationships with them. I long to be family, to pour love out and see it grow into something beautiful with my people. I want to see Gleysi grow up in a community that cherishes their children and give them hope to become something incredible, something unbelievable.

My heart is in a little village that doesn’t seem like much, but is filled with the hope of becoming a piece of heaven on earth.

Join me in prayer for the spiritual warfare, for the discouragement, for the people broken in spirit. Pray for hope and freedom and joy! For deliverance from the normalities of their culture.

We are so blessed with an amazing organization called “Educate Nica” that helps so many of the kids in our community get sponsored for school, medical/dental care, and bright futures. Click on the picture to go to Educate Nica’s website and learn more!

Meet my precious friend Darwin from Santa Matilde. He needs a sponsor!
“Darwin lives with his mom, her boyfriend, and his two older siblings in a small, one room house made of tin, plastic, and cardboard. Darwin and his siblings have been passed around to various family members as his mom and dad have been in the midst of a custody battle. Darwin is in his first year of preschool. He likes to draw, paint and practice his letters in school. Darwin stutters and still has a very limited vocabulary for a child his age. Sponsorship would open doors to have him evaluated. It will also allow him to study consistently.”
Click on the picture to go to his sponsor page on the Educate Nica website to sponsor Darwin for $25 a month!

Gosh I love them. Rosita and Abel.

IMG_2279

I am so excited that Cadence is with us now! She is a great joy and comfort to me, I absolutely love our friendship that is growing. I’m excited to see all the ways that God is going to use her unique, passionate personality here at New Song!

IMG_2378

Our church made the decision to appoint Saul as youth pastor. I have a great love and respect for him and his relationship with God. He has some great ideas that he would like to try with the youth and I am asking for prayer that we would have the wisdom to carry them out well.

IMG_2447

Oh, how I love my dear friend Jovanny. He has lovingly and patiently taught me Spanish and how to dance Latino. He is incredibly intelligent and motivated, teaching himself English among a thousand other things. Jovanny is in university now and would love to do more things with English in the future. I have no doubt he can accomplish ANYTHING he sets his mind to!

IMG_2281

Easter Sunday with my lovely Cadence and Rosita!

IMG_2307

Communion on Easter Sunday. This is such a big deal that some of the youth participated! Having almost all grown up in legalistic church backgrounds, there is a huge amount of controversy within the youth about who can take communion, who is really a christian, etc. We are trying to impress the truth that Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross covers it all, and we are made worthy by that. Keep praying that the youth believe and preach the truth!

I loved this little area of sleepy adorableness 🙂

Starting to Dream

163379_4859655142490_445575630_n

Right now is a time of pruning for me.

I got to the point where I was feeling so complacent, and honestly just like I wasn’t doing anything useful.

I started asking God to make me ready for the places He was going to take me.

He’s moving in my heart, I can feel it. He started changing things that I felt OK with before. He’s bringing things to the surface that I haven’t wanted to deal with, but promising it’s better if He takes care of it now, before the bitterness consumes a part of my soul. He’s emptying the parts of me that are filled with selfish desires and un-servant-like tendencies. He’s emptying so He can fill me with the thrill and growth of new life!

And so:

I’ve been telling God lately that I’m ready.
I’m ready to take on hard situations.
I’m ready to start speaking life into death.
I’m ready to fill others up.
I’m ready to be the safe place to unload.

And He’s blessed that. He’s answered with the words that I am enough for His purpose. He’s started putting people in my life that need a place where they can spill, vomit, lay out everything that’s one their heart.

Sunday night was the first time I prayed for someone in Spanish. I was holding an aching heart, desperate to speak some sort of comfort, but didn’t have the confidence to try. Jesus gave me a nudge, a slight pressure to open my mouth and speak what I know. He continually tells me how much He believes in me!
And so I did. I knew what to say in Spanish, the Lord brought words to my lips, and I just said them, trusting in the way He would use them.

I’m learning that my greatest privilege is to be able to experience God’s presence. How incredible is it we can be with our Creator, the one who knows every thing about us and is still thrilled to have community with us. In Hebrews 6:18-19,

“So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.  This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.”

What an honor. What a beautiful and amazing thing to have a hope so sure. My prayer is that you trust that your value in God’s eyes is incomparable and every moment that He gets to spend with you, He treasures. I think I would be saddened and surprised at the number of people He’s created who don’t enjoy that or realize that it exists. That time with Him is so purposeful for the things we’re going to do in our day, week, and year.
I’ve been frustrated lately with the amount of time I have that I don’t have anything planned. But the Lord is speaking to me that this time of rest and peace is going to be so beneficial in the days and years to come. Right now is the time where I am going to be filled up and rested before big things start to happen.

The reason I know this?

I have a dream in my heart right now that God is growing a little bit more every day.

I wish I could spill it all out right now, bring y’all into how exciting this is for me, but I would really love to get everything figured out more first.

Please have patience with me, but be praying for this new adventure.

What I will say is this: a love is growing in my heart for children. I long to give them a safe environment where they can be impressed early on how important and special and wonderful they are. How purposeful their lives are and how much potential they have. Hope needs to be planted early on and nurtured with grace and patience. I know God sent me here to do just that.

I HAVE A DATE!!!

SO.

I bought a plane ticket the other day.

Can you guess where it’s headed?

NOVEMBER 12th.

I am going back to Nicaragua!!!

I am beyond stoked as you can imagine,

however,

I am still in need of support!

My church will be showing a fund-raising video on November 11th,

so I kind of took a leap of faith with this one,

praying that I would get the rest of my support raised in one day.

Right now, I have about $350 out of $500 per month raised.

AND $500 IS THE BARE MINIMUM.

I am hoping to raise a little extra for additional expenses.

It would be awesome to have it all taken care of before they show the video,

so that any additional donations would be extra provision.

Would you please prayerfully consider donating towards my trip?

I am hoping for dedicated monthly supporters

but also one-time donations as well.

Any amount helps!!

You will be enabling me to mentor and disciple teenage girls,

DISCLAIMER: I realize that a lot of people are not in a place where they can make a donation. I appreciate your prayers more than anything that all the funding would come together and that God would be preparing my heart for what’s to come.

Hello Friends and Family,

I wrote a letter a while back when I was trying to fund-raise for my 4 month missions trip to Nicaragua, and just wanted to update you on what happened, or if you’re hearing about this for the first time, let you know what’s going on in my life lately. The trip was absolutely fantastic. My team and I were able to grow as a family and as individuals, and then minister to the poverty-stricken Nicaraguans. I learned an incredible amount about my relationship with God and what He wants for my life. As you might remember, I was going on the trip to confirm that I wanted to pursue full-time ministry as a missionary. My trip has made me completely sure of this and has led me to making the next step in that dream.

While in Nicaragua, my team worked with various ministries. The last of them being an organization called New Song Mission Nicaragua. New Song is a small church in the village of Candelaria, a village filled with extremely poor people who are stuck in the vicious cycle of poverty. You’re born into a world with no hope, no future, and you can’t do anything about it. What New Song is doing is bringing HOPE and JOY into these peoples’ lives. Their biggest outreach is toward the youth in the community. They are passionate about calling them in to the greatness God has created them for, raising them up as leaders, and then letting them take over the leadership positions in the church and its different ministries. In May of 2012 I applied for a year-long internship with them and got accepted.

My heart and New Song’s completely line up. God has given me a passion for youth and the importance of letting them know their capabilities from being a Christ follower. He has also been growing a huge love for worship in me that I will be sharing by starting a worship ministry. Another outreach I will be doing is making the community of Candelaria my family. I will be going out most days to meet people, see where they need help, or just sit and talk with them. Let them know that they are loved by me because Jesus loves them. The people of Candelaria are hurting inside, searching for something to believe in, and I know that Jesus will fill that empty space.

I want to have my friends and family be a part of my missions trip and let you guys know that where God may plant you, you re still going to make an enormous impact on the world by donating your resources and praying for me. The cost of living for me in Nicaragua is going to be $500 per month. I am going to be there for a year, so that adds up to $6000. New Song has told me that I don’t have to have that total amount when I come, I just need the $500 a month committed. The way it breaks down is if I had 50 people donating $10 a month or 25 people donating $20 a month I would be all set. If you would like to make a donation, you can make your check out to “Life Church” and put my name, Haille Krieg, on the memo line. Their address is 7001 N. Haggerty, Canton, MI 48187. Or, you can donate to their Paypal account here: http://www.lifechurchcanton.org/#/about-life/financial-contributions (just make sure to specify that it’s for my missions trip). Please contact me at haillekrieg@gmail.com if you would like to become a dedicated monthly donor.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this and being a part of my life. I would not have the confidence and preparedness to make this big step in my life without the support and encouragement of my friends and family. If you would like to hear more about my experience or more about what I’ll be doing when I go back, feel free to contact me! Thanks in advance for your prayers and financial support!

LOVE, Haille

Bracelets for Nicaragua!

In my last post, I talked about starting to fund-raise.

Here is my first project!

While in Nicaragua, I was taught by these wonderful people how to make some really awesome bracelets. My friend Yahaira taught me to make those ones with the diamonds.

There was this great store in Leon that sold really good string. It’s waxed and very strong so these bracelets will last years and years.

I’m selling them for $8 each, with all the proceeds going towards my next trip to Nicaragua.

Here are the ones I have currently made:

Let me know if you are interested in buying one of these! If you like one of these patterns but want different colors, let me know and I will make it. The colors I have are: green, gold, pink, purple, dark blue, turqoise, and beige. Keep checking back for new pictures because I will update this as bracelets are sold and made.

Send me an e-mail at haillekrieg@gmail.com or message me on Facebook.

Feel free to share this with your friends/family!

AND Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

It’s that time again…

So I hope that by now you have heard about my plans for this fall. If not, you can read about them here.

Short and sweet, God has called me to continue doing missions work in Nicaragua.

Let me introduce you to a wonderful organization called New Song.

Located in the village of Candelaria, New Song seeks:

“To enjoy life changing relationships in real community,
To disciple and train local pastors and to assist them in planting new churches,
To provide health care,
To invite young missionaries and teams to experience God at work among us,
To develop self-sustaining businesses and see people learn to provide for themselves,
To prepare a generation to break the cycle of spiritual and social poverty.”

During my last couple weeks in Nicaragua with my Passport team, we had the opportunity to partner in ministry with this organization. Almost immediately, I was captivated with the people, the vision, and the way the Spirit was working in lives. It was there that God put a passion in my heart for youth and really spoke to me about coming back to Nicaragua to specifically work with them.
The congregation at New Song is mostly youth (which in Nicaragua means anyone age  14 to about 30 who is not married and doesn’t have children). They are being discipled by the incredible staff and being shown what leaders they can be in their community by being examples of a Christian life. Helped by the patient and loving guidance of the staff, these youth have already started to make a difference. Their hearts are being changed to want a relationship with their heavenly Father, and the by-product of that is them wanting to pursue lives devoted to God. They have started stepping into positions in the church – teaching sunday school, dance classes, english, and much more. These young men and women have limitless potential that they are starting to tap into and bring into the light. It was so exciting to see a little part of it while I was there and it is the main reason I am feeling God call me back. I really desire to be a part of this movement!

Alrighty, so now that you’ve read a little about the organization that I’m going to work with when I go back, let me share a few details of how this is going to work. At the moment, I’m still figuring out the logistics, but I just wanted to put this out there so you all can get a better idea of what my plans are. Also, I’m going to be honest, I need to start raising funds as soon as possible since it’s not going to be something I can pay for on my own.

  • The estimated date of departure is going to be in September or October of this year.
  • I’m going to be staying for a year.
  • The minimum cost of living is going to be $500 a month, but I’m hoping to raise a bit more for extra expenses. I’m going to be asking for $10,000 for the whole year.

$10,000 is a scary number for me. However, I am positive that this is where God is calling me to in the next season of my life. I am confident that He will provide and that He will put the right people in my path who are willing to support me both financially and prayerfully.

Please. If you are not in a place where you can donate financially, send a few prayers my way. I am so grateful to the number of people I know who have supported me on this whole journey. You all have a very special place in my heart and your prayers have made such a difference in my life.

If you would like to support me financially, contact me at haillekrieg@gmail.com or Facebook. If you have any encouraging thoughts, prayers, or words, I would appreciate anything you can give. Let me know if you would like to learn more about anything that I’ve talked about here. Also, send me an e-mail if you would like me to keep you updated with fund-raising events and opportunities.

Thank you for taking the time to read this! If you would like to share this with your friends and family, I would be so grateful. That is a huge way of supporting me even if you cannot do so financially at this time.

Sending super awesome God blessings your way!
And again, let me know what I can be praying for you for!
