For New Years, a tradition here is to make a doll full of fireworks and set them on fire, burning the last year and celebrating the new! The Vega family, Lisa, and I went out to the fields, got some hay, and spent New Years Eve morning stuffing our doll.

It was a crazy amount of fun. As you can see.

New Year’s Eve was also spent at the Park with some of the youth, riding ridiculous rides. That would me at the top, upside down.

An enormous service we had to welcome in the new families from the new houses. All of our outreach churches came as well!75358_10200262449070193_701363293_nSpeaking of the new families, this one is very near and dear to my heart! (L-R) Jennifer, Marvin, and Marianna are 3 siblings who live with their parents in one of the beautiful, bright new houses (their’s is yellow and green!). They were the first kids that I met from there and have quickly stolen my heart. Except for the one day that they banged on my door the entire time I was taking a shower… 🙂

2 incredible teams we had help us with prep work before Finish the Wall came. Big thank you to Concordia University and FBC!

The thing that goes along with being friends with Rosita Vega…you inevitably will end up doing a ridiculous food dare that involves Licuados. Mine was to eat 3 Papusas and drink 2 Giant Licuados. I didn’t finish. I threw up. I’m a baby.

Still going strong with English classes with Jovanny. This is our class in Nuevo Amanecer, that I share with Lisa. I love working with talented and bright youth. They make all my jobs so easy and joyful!

A beautiful Quinceañera that I got to attend. Tania didn't think she would be able to have this special ceremony of the transition from a girl to a woman because of her family's financial situation. Thankfully, some very special people took notice and put it on themselves to make it happen for her! She looked gorgeous and was so thankful to have this special day.

Had a girl’s night at the park with Rosita, Lisa, and Gema. We spent the night playing on the childrens’ playground equipment, even when the electricity went out in Chichigalpa. Then we got some delicious papusas! And yes, I am the only one missed the Jeans memo.

And finally, one of the biggest reasons why I love my life here in Candelaria, Nicaragua. I spend my days getting loved on by sweet children who have smiles and hearts bigger than the poverty they live in. Here I am getting bathed with my water bottle. This went on for a good 20 mins…until I realized my cell phone was in my pocket.

When Heaven Meets Earth

This week Lisa and I went to the beach for our days off. The beach we go to, Playa Roca, is absolutely gorgeous and has so many places to get away and just soak in the presence of God.
I was sitting on a rock by myself, right in the ocean, far from any other people, and just talking with Jesus. Sometimes, I end up singing to Him…it’s beautiful. So I’m singing “How He Loves” by John Mark McMillan and there’s a part that says, “We are His portion, and we are His pride/Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes/If His grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking/And Heaven meets Earth like a sloppy wet kiss and my heart turns violently inside of my chest…”

It made me think:

What does that look like, when heaven meets earth?

The truth is, it’s MESSY.

Heaven’s intentions are so pure, so completely full of love. But this earth we live in, we don’t know HOW to accept that love.

Yesterday while we were in staff worship, all this was on my heart and I ended up journalling this prayer…it explains how I feel about it:

“When your heart touches the earth it created, where does your love go?

Your creation, my people, we’re not ready to be captivated by true love.

We don’t understand it.

You’re trying to help us know the height and depth and width of this tragically enormous hope you have for our lives.

If only we could know, if only we could find your strength inside us — we could be beyond unstoppable.

We would be made part of you.

Complete.

What joy, to be complete at last! I’ve done so much searching….to find my identity, to find who can love me, who can make me believe that there’s more to life than striving for perfection in everyone else’s eyes.

And your eyes, Oh Lord, they hold the unfathomable waters of your soul.

A place where I could lose this wretched, earthly shell and be wholly, wholly, WHOLLY YOURS.

Jesus, this is all I long to be. Make me whole Jesus. Jesus, make this heart whole.

Leave no cracks, no places where I could let your presence escape. Even if I had holes, your spirit would never want to leave.

This is the love I will never stop singing about. The love that created me just to love me.

Who could ever be worth of that?

And you take even that worry from my mind. You have made me complete.

This is how I was created to live.

I’m praying that this week, you can let the love of God complete you. That you can discover that you were made for this kind of love. God truly made you and believed that you were special, that you were valuable and that you were worthy for His plans. Open your ears to the love that Jesus wants to speak over your life! He is READY to equip you to live a life worthy of the calling He’s given you!

Psalm 85:7-8

“O Eternal One, show us Your unfailing love;
give us what we truly need: Your salvation.
I will hear what the True God – the Eternal – will say,
for He will speak peace over His people,
peace over those who faithfully follow Him.”

If you would like to pray for me this week, the biggest thing I need prayer for is my fund-raising. I am really low right now and if I want to continue living here full-time, I have got to get more support. Other things I could use prayer for is to figure out more structure for our worship practices and program so that when Brandon gets back from the States, we can get right back into this, with more ideas and energy.

End of December Update — Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year to you all!

Here is a little update of my holidays and a good portion of December:

Christmas in Nicaragua was beautiful. My day was spent at a waterfall in the mountains of Matagalpa, listening to what the Lord was telling me about His plans for me here in Candelaria. This time of being in Nicaragua is the greatest gift God has blessed me with this year. I didn’t open a single present, but I felt complete. I have more than I could ever deserve and know what to do with. I can’t even think of anything materially that I want. This experience is more than enough to give me joy and fill my heart completely.

We were talking as a mission about how it didn’t feel like Christmas. What it didn’t feel like though, was Christmas in the United States. There were close to no decorations, no trees, no Santa, no Christmas music, no one rushing around buying gifts, no commercials blaring in your face about the latest toy or gadget. It was peaceful. We looked at a picture of a manger and thought how that looked more like Nicaragua than anything in the States. As cheesy as it sounds, being here made me become a million times more grateful and in need of the gift of the Savior. This year, I didn’t want anything except the grace and mercy of the God to work in my life, in my village’s lives, in the ministry of New Song. I needed the gift of a Savior much more than the gratification of getting new material things.

Coming back to everyday life, I have some prayer requests for some things that have been going on lately:
· Personally, I have had one of the toughest weeks of my time here. There’s this thing here where if someone is mad at you, they stop talking to you. Just stop. And you can’t figure out what’s wrong unless you allow yourself to be manipulated by playing their games. Some of my best friends had that whole thing going on with me this past week. It hurt my heart…a lot. But it also made me take a good look at who I came to Nicaragua to please – people or God? All the situations gave me a chance to grow and move on from caring SO MUCH about the opinions of people. So I just need prayer for God to continue healing me from this humanly want to please everyone.

· My different ministries are going pretty well. English classes are going great, I’m getting to know the kids better and learning a lot more Spanish to be able to talk with them and help out with their questions. My friend Jovanny, who teaches the classes, has recently decided to try and find a sponsor to try going to University. I am so excited for him and can’t wait to support him in whatever ways I can. At the moment, we are just praying that a sponsor would be able to take him on pretty quickly, as classes start in February.
With worship, Brandon and I are experiencing some struggles and discouragement with the way things are going right now. After talking with Tommy, who is charge of the mission, we’ve decided to completely re-do the entire structure. Our new plan is for the two of us to actually lead worship in church on Sunday nights and be discipling the youth that are wanting to take that place eventually. Please be praying for this new program, that things would work out and we would have the chance to raise up new worship leaders from the congregation.
· Lastly, we are so excited to be welcoming teams from the organization Finish the Wall who are going to finish our Bakery and Restaurant that is well under way with construction. This will be a great way to provide more jobs for the community and a new opportunity for outreach. Please be praying for safe travels for the 4 different teams and that the Lord would bless this project and provide fast and safe work for everyone involved.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support! I am so excited for this next year and the ways God is going to move. I have so much faith in His purpose here in Candelaria!

If you would like to be a part of helping me stay here and work on different ministries and love on the wonderful people, I would appreciate any sort of donation you feel led to give. I am really in need right now of monthly financial support, but one-time gifts are just as useful. Here’s how you can help:
1. Write a check and send to Life Church. Make check out to Life Church, put Haille Krieg in the memo line, and send to 7001 Haggerty Rd, Canton MI 48187

2. Send money electronically through Life Church’s PayPal account. You can find that here: http://www.lifechurchcanton.org/#/about-life/financial-contributions. Make sure you specify that it’s for Haille Krieg.

I will be praying for all of you dear supporters that God will bless you this year and you will see God’s purpose in every moment of your life.

All my love,
Haille
